THE MOONLIGHT CHILD by Karen McQuestion

From the author of HALF A HEART, GOOD MAN, DALTON and many more comes the story of such a deep subject it will knock your socks off. Karen McQuestion has literally outdone herself with this one. The best book of this year for me and that is saying so much.

This is like reading three stories in one. How they come together. How they intersect with one another. How they end up. The story of three mothers who are so very different and going through such different things. One is loss and she's so kind. One found but is the meanest women I have ever met. One is helping and is also such a sweet woman. Each of the mothers are so different. You will love two and deeply hate one.

When Wendy and Edwin's daughter goes missing a chain reaction starts. It's the setting of a heartfelt, horrific story that is also full of love, understanding, friendships and being a parent. Little do they know what they are in store for. How will their world ever be the same. When their daughter, Morgan, leaves without a trace they are helpless. There is not one thing they can do because of her age. She's eighteen an adult, but still a child too.

Sharon's adult daughter, Amy, asks her to help a young woman, Niki, by giving her a place to stay. She's had a tough life and just needs some compassion and help. Not a lot of questions or prying into her business, just some understanding and maybe a little kindness. Sharon has no idea how her life is about to change. Neither does Niki. They are a match to be reckoned with for sure. Niki is a strong young lady but also gets hurt easily. Sharon is a woman who is living alone and really starts to enjoy having Niki around. The things they do will leave you breathless. The bond they create will make your heart happy.

Suzette, what can I say about her. She's a force of the likes you will never forget. She's so self centered and controlling and just down right mean. She has a  teenage son, Jacob, who she is really ashamed of. He's a good kid but also troubled. Then there is Mia. Mia is a little girl who is treated so horrible. She's made to live a life that no child should have to live. I hated Suzette and I also very much disliked her husband, Bob, because I felt like he should have done something. Instead of acting like a big baby and worrying about himself. He should have helped his son and the child, Mia. They didn't deserve Suzette's tantrums and fits. He knew something was not right. He knew.

Let's not forget Griswold. He was the pup. The dog that loved Mia unconditionally. The one that was always there. I loved that little pup.

The way these three women's stories intersect and play out is pure genius. Nothing short of magical in so many ways. Three children, Mia, Jacob and Niki. Three mothers, Wendy, Suzette and Sharon. All have their own problems yet all end just where you want. This was a sad, happy, ugly, beautiful, heartfelt story of a horrible loss. A happy find. A great forever after. It's storytelling at it's very best.

Thank you Karen McQuestion for this awesome book. This is my review as I saw it.

A huge, giant, great 5/5 stars and the highest possible recommendation.
