THE FAULT BETWEEN US by Bette Lee Crosby

April 18, 1906 – A devastating earthquake rocks San Francisco and Templeton Morehouse fears her husband is lost forever. A powerful and compelling story from USA Today bestselling author Bette Lee Crosby

Chances were a million to one that a girl born and raised in Philadelphia would encounter a stranger from California on the trolley and fall madly in love, but that’s what happened. Templeton was not only taken with John Morehouse, but also with his tales of life in San Francisco. As an aspiring fashion designer, the dazzle of a city called the Paris of the West, with its towering department stores and European couture was too much to resist.

Despite her family’s objections, she and John are married and, on their way back to California, before the month is out. To ease the heartbreak of such a move, Templeton promises her family that they will return for a visit every summer. She fully intends to keep that promise, but as her fashions gain popularity, the business grows increasingly more demanding. The trips back to Philadelphia become less frequent and she makes foolish choices she will come to regret.

Now, when she is on the verge of having everything she’s ever wanted, a devastating earthquake has torn across San Francisco and she awakes to discover the father of her baby is missing.

With the city in flames, Templeton’s daddy leaves Philadelphia and sets out in search of his son-in-law. He’s too old for such a trip and ill-equipped for the challenges he will encounter, but he’s the only hope of saving his daughter’s happiness.
Lines of communication are down and the city in shambles, so the only thing Templeton can do is pray she doesn’t lose both her daddy and her husband.

MY THOUGHTS:

Another sensational book by one of my all time favorite authors, Bette Lee Crosby. She never disappoints and this time she went over and above. A story of love. A story of loss. A story of rebuilding. A beautiful story two people who met on a streetcar.

Favorite quote from this book
"The problem is love never takes sensibility into account. Your heart doesn't stop and ask questions before it plunges headlong into something so magical you're powerless to resist it. Love happens like a lightning bolt. It hits, and just like that your world is changed. His eyes meet yours, he smiles, and that's when you know this is your forever."  (I love this)

Eleanor and Albert had no idea what they were getting into when they had Templeton. She's a late in life baby and comes into the world loudly. They will forever be changed by this little bundle of joy. They are definitely not disappointed either. From the time Templeton can she starts drawing. Her mission in life is to be a designer. To design women's clothes. She has no desire to ever marry or have a family. Just draw and make clothes. Possibly become a well known designer. Until the day she steps on that streetcar and meets John. It's instant love. A connection like she has never felt. Her life will never be the same.

John and Templeton have a whirlwind courtship and are married within a few weeks of that first meeting. Her parents were not sold on the idea at first but came around. Now they set off for San Francisco to start their new life. They are young and in love and have the whole world ahead of them. Little do they know what awaits them. What lies ahead. They will face many things. Together they can get through anything though. A visit back home to see Templeton's parents brings about many changes for this couple. When John goes back to take take care of his business and Templeton stays behind for a few weeks visit a whole new series of events will take place. Many heartaches and much loss. Will they be reunited? Can Albert find John and if so will he be ok. An earthquake rocked San Francisco and no one has heard from John.

Together Templeton and her mother wait for word. As time goes they become very anxious for both men. So much is going on and you will hold your breath a few times. Shed a lot of tears and smile a few times too. You'll meet some great characters on this journey. Some you will not like but most you will love. Admire and root for. This is a wonderful book filled with hope, love, family, laughter and tears. A few scares and some realizations too. Getting to know John and Templeton is something you won't soon forget. Nor is getting to know Albert and Eleanor. Both of these couples share a love that runs deep and strong.

Thank you to the author for this wonderful book via BookFunnel. This is my own true feelings about this book.

5/5 huge stars for a magnificent job. A high recommendation. Read, learn, cry, then try breathing again. It's great from start to finish.

  3. I love her books, too, and I always find something "quotable" within the pages.

Love the play on words: "the fault," reminding us of earthquakes, even as we also ponder the other faults that come along.

    Thanks for sharing.
