DON'T LOOK BACK by D. K. Hood

Jenna Alton was once an FBI agent who would stop at nothing to put those who hurt the innocent behind bars. An addictive short-read about how she became Black Rock Falls’ most loved sheriff.

He grabs at her hair, pulling hard. She doesn’t scream like he wants her to. Instead, she grits her teeth and waits for her chance to escape. Then she runs harder than she has ever run in her life. As she hears his angry footsteps gaining on her, she prays that she makes it out of there alive…

Undercover FBI agent Jenna Alton has been playing wife to dangerous criminal husband Michael Carlos for four years. Tonight she plans to make her escape. But as she gathers her belongings together, she hears something that stops her in her tracks – he’s taken a young girl called Mandy, and she’s being held somewhere close. Jenna knows what she must do – find the child and get her to safety – even if it means risking her own life.

As Michael hosts a party at their secluded home, Jenna pretends to play his doting wife, whilst desperately searching for Mandy. She takes a deep breath as she walks past her husband’s office door. If he catches her, he’ll kill her.

Jenna’s already sacrificed so much, but innocent lives will be lost if she doesn’t leave the house tonight. With the clock ticking, can Jenna save the innocent little girl and get them both out alive?

An absolutely unputdownable 150-page read from USA Today bestselling author D.K. Hood. If you’re a fan of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, you will love this gripping read.

MY THOUGHTS
This is a series and I did not realize that. I wish I would have had the chance to read the first few books so I would have honestly understood who each of these characters were. The main two characters that is. Kane and Jenna. Both are with the police. One a special opps and the other a sheriff.

This story starts out with Jenna telling  Kane who she was. What went on in her past. What she went through while undercover. Being married to the son of the head of the Cartel.  Taking beatings when she certainly could have fought back and hurt the man. What her life was like before. Before she had to give up her life and go into witness protection.

This book definitely has the potential to be great. It was very much edge of your seat for the first half and the last part. The between parts kind of let me down but it was still good. It would have been way better if I had read the whole series though. I would have know how Jenna came to be undercover. Married Michael Carlos. Gone through so much. It would have explained the nightmare at the beginning. The prologue. That part pulled me in so completely then I was left wondering what happened. But it was still a good story.

This story deals with a lot of things from drug running to children being sold for sex. A family who can destroy you in a second and never blink an eye. A woman who managed to infiltrate  them and come out alive. Who went on to have a life. To help others. It's an edge of your seat thriller in so many places.

Thank you #NetGalley, #DKHood, #Bookouture for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book.

3.5 out of 5 stars for me. I recommend you read some of the previous books so you know exactly what is going on. It's still good and I believe you will enjoy this one. It did fall a bit short for me because I needed more info about some things. Still it was good.
