HAVE YOU SEEN HER by Catherine McKenzie

My thoughts

Another good one my Catherine McKenzie. This author never disappoints me. It's always lots of thrills and surprises.

A young woman, Cassie, leaves her abusive husband Kevin. All she takes is a burner phone and some clothes. She has a job lined up already. She's headed to Yosemite to work as a SARs, search and rescue. There is no way her husband can find her. He thinks she's from Colorado after all. Cassie had worked this job ten years ago and left after a friend went missing and was found dead later. She could not take the pressure anymore so left.

While working Cassie meets people she has known from her previous job there. She meets some new people also. Jada is there with her boyfriend Jim. Petal is with her girlfriend Sandy. These three cross paths a few times. But when Jada and Jim go missing the whole area goes into rescue mode. It's like a repeat of ten years before in many ways. Cassie and Jenny worked the earlier rescue, or as it turned out, recovery. This time it's Ben and Cassie.

This book keeps you wanting more and it's very descriptive of the area and the job. There are lots of climbing scenes and a few party scenes. The story is told from before and now. It started out with a body being found. A male. It's Cassie's husband Kevin. This story takes you from when she is rescued to how it all happened. The back and forth being very helpful. It also gives you insight in Jade and Petal's lives. Each of them tell things that happen.

There is a twist that I did not see coming. I was totally surprised by it as I usually do see these things. Not this time. I was floored. This book takes you on a few hikes in search of missing people. Some might not make it back. Some might have a lot of explaining to do. But it will hold your attention up until the very last page. I enjoyed the twists very much.

While I didn't much like any of the characters except Ben it was still a very good book. It kept me wanting more and kept me guessing. It's another winner for Ms McKenzie. One I think you will enjoy if you like a thrill ride.

Thank you #NetGalley, #CatherineMcKenzie, #Atria for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book. Well done.

Four big stars and only lost one because I didn't connect or like anyone except Ben. The rest were to much for me. ha ha

Synopsis

A thrilling and timely novel about three women with dark secrets whose lives intersect in the picturesque and perilous Yosemite National Park from the USA TODAY bestselling author of Please Join Us.

Equipped with a burner phone and a new job, Cassie Peters has left her hectic and secretive life in New York City for the refuge of her hometown of Mammoth Lakes, California. There, she begins working again with Yosemite Search and Rescue, where a case she worked a decade ago continues to haunt her.

She quickly falls into old patterns, joining a group of fellow seasonal workers and young adventurers who have made Yosemite their home during the summer. There, she meets Petal, a young woman living in a trailer with her much older wife, keeping a detailed diary of the goings on of the park, and Jada, a recent college graduate on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend, documenting their journey on Instagram.

When these three women cross paths, Cassie’s past catches up with her, and the shocking consequences ripple out far beyond what any could have imagined in this unputdownable thriller.
