STILLWATER ISLAND by Gregg Olsen BlogTour

About the Book:

“Mommy, I’m scared.” Marlena’s precious boy lies with his little arm thrown over her thigh. It’s pitch-black, and she can hear seagulls. She realises they must be near water, and a new panic rises in her.

At 2 a.m. one icy winter morning, in the smart suburbs of Jefferson County, local father Ben Parker reports his wife Marlena and their little boy missing.

Rushing to the impressive family home, Detective Megan Carpenter finds the halls adorned with pictures of the beautiful, stay-at-home mom and their bright-eyed son. But that’s not all she finds…

A bottle of prenatal vitamins in the bathroom cabinet reveal that Marlena is pregnant. Why didn’t Ben mention this in his panicked call to the police?

Digging deeper into their seemingly perfect marriage, Megan’s fear begins to grow. The couple are separated, there’s talk of an affair, and the neighbors report loud fights. And then, Megan tracks a young woman believed to be Ben’s secret girlfriend, only to find her lifeless body in a secluded wood.

Ben’s watch lies in the undergrowth, and Megan’s team think she’s cracked the case, but she’s sure something’s not right. Ben’s family has wealth including a private island, and connections in high places. Is someone trying to block their investigation?

As Megan starts to wonder if the answer lies on the Parkers’ closely guarded island, just offshore, a shocking revelation makes her question everything. With a killer on the loose, can Megan find the missing pieces to the most complex case of her career and bring Marlena and her little boy home alive? Or will it be too late to save them?

A totally edge-of-your-seat mystery thriller that will have you racing to the end, from a number one, New York TimesWall Street Journal and Amazon Charts bestselling author. Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Michael Connelly and James Patterson.

MY THOUGHTS
I have throughly enjoyed this series and look forward to the next Megan Carpenter  book. It opens with a bang that will have you holding your breath and gritting your teeth. Who has taken this woman and child. Where are they. What is going to happen to them. So much going on and to top it off Marlena, the victim, is pregnant.  Bennie, the little four year old, suffers from asthma.  Was it the husband and dad. Was it a stranger kidnapping for ransom. Or someone who had other motives.  Who wanted Marlena  and Bennie out of the way.

This book is the  fourth book in the Detective Megan Carpenter series. I really like this one although some parts did get a bit under my skin. Megan would say something then it would have a thought almost every single time. Like she didn't say exactly what she meant but you got to see what she thought. While that was ok  it did get a bit aggravating at times. She's an excellent detective and is training a young detective, Ronnie, while doing her job too. She has a lot going one in her life after managing to deal with the things that happened in her life. Finding out who her biological father was and dealing with a lying mother, she's made a good life for herself. Megan has had a lot on her plate and is doing good considering. She's had to take lives and keep her sanity. She's trying to make a life. She wants nothing more than for her brother, who she raised, to be close again but he thinks their mother is the greatest and Megan knows better.

This book makes you feel like you are running through the woods in places. In a damp dark place at others. Makes it hard to breath when you think about what is happening to Marlena and Bennie. Makes you wonder if the husband, Ben, can be trusted. I didn't like him and was a bit unhappy with how his character was portrayed. I think he could have shown some kind of emotion in the beginning. After all his wife and son are missing. He seemed to be very nonchalant when questioned about his wife and at times even his son. He lied at the drop of a pin yet when it came down to it he shed tears like a man who  has lost everything. You'll suspect him throughout and then wonder if he really could be so cold and calculating. Does he have feelings or was his upbringing so bad that he has no clue how to truly love. I did like his dad, Cyrus. He seemed to be a very good and decent man. He is very rich. Owns an island. He's a bit of a loner but loves his daughter in law and grandson. He will do whatever it takes to get them back... Or will he? Does he know something that will help to find them before it's too late. You will have lots of questions and I promise they will all be answered. You'll get to know the characters and the people they are involved with. You won't be left hanging.

I did not figure out who did what and that is always a good thing.

Thank you  # NetGalley, #GreggOlsen, #Bookouture for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book.

4/5 stars and I recommend it. You will enjoy this one.
